Family Life Academy Charter School (FLACS) is a non-profit public charter school for kindergarten through eighth grade students. FLACS opened in 2001 with 100 kindergartners and first grade students.

By 2011, FLACS will serve 468 kindergartners through eighth grade students. A FLACS scholar has the opportunity to apply his or her mind to an exciting and thought-provoking educational program. FLACS motivates students to excel and welcomes families to share in their children’s educational experiences.

Active School Leadership:
FLACS is lead by an experienced and dedicated Principal and a Board of Directors passionate about education and social jusitce. The school’s instructional and operations teams believe in the value of a rigorous academic program and respond to the needs of FLACS students.
School Traditions:
During FLACS’ first charter period, three traditions emerged that will continue throughout the school’s next phase. These include:
- Community Book Projects
- December Month of Service
- Character Education
- All School Sing
- School uniform
Extended Day:
FLACS offers an extended day, 8:15-3:15 (3:25 for the middle school), plus a number of afterschool programs including tutorials and homework help.
Special Structures:
In its first seven years of existence, a series of special structures evolved, which will be continued in the school’s next middle school phase:
- School-wide literacy instruction block every day
- Teaching Assistants in every classroom
- Daily grade level lesson planning
- Weekly faculty conferences
- Monthly child study team meetings

- Saturday Academy
- After School Tutoring and Enrichment
