Family Life Academy Charter School seeks to meet the particular needs of the surrounding South Bronx community, which has a large percentage of students living in poverty and many having limited English language proficiency. All curriculum content and lessons are delivered in the English language but designed to meet the needs of English Language Learners.
The academic program for both the elementary and middle school is rigorous and challenges students’ innate and acquired intellectual curiosity and is accompanied by clearly articulated and demanding student achievement standards. FLACS concentrates on the development of the core skills of reading, language and mathematics.

FLACS teachers, the data specialist, and educational administrators meet weekly to discuss the progress of each student and determine support service if necessary. All teachers participate in monthly professional development seminars to polish their skills and learn new approaches to teaching.
