Standardized Testing

Grades K-3

FLACS administers the Terra Nova, 3rd edition to all students in grades K-3. Students are assessed in the areas of reading and mathematics. Terra Nova is an innovative, research-based assessment program that is closely aligned with state standards and the framework of the National Assessment of Educational progress (NAEP). Terra Nova provides diagnostic data regarding student strengths and weaknesses relative to state standards and information about skills that need reinforcement. It also allows for comparisons of student performance using nationally representative 2007 norms.

Grades 3-8

FLACS adheres to the regulations and guidelines of the New York State Testing Program. The New York State Testing Program is designed to evaluate the implementation of the State’s Learning Standards at the student, school, district, and state levels. To meet the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), tests in English Language Arts and Mathematics are administered annually at each grade level in Grades 3–8. The state tests serve as important measures of student progress. The exams for grades 3–8 provide information about students’ preparedness for study at the next grade level. The Grades 3–8 English Language Arts and Mathematics tests help schools to identify students for whom they need to provide additional academic assistance in these subject areas. State assessments are also designed to help schools measure the effectiveness of their instructional programs and to measure yearly student progress. The assessments are based on the State Learning Standards and the Core Curriculum.
