Greening the Bronx

The ultimate goal of FLACS’ green initiatives is for students to connect with health and nature so as to foster a new way of thinking about nutrition, health, and peoples’ interactions with their natural world.

Bronx Botanical Partnership

In partnership with the Bronx Botanical Garden, FLACS students will construct compost bins for the final product to be used a fertilizer in a rooftop garden. Botanical Garden staff and the instructional team at FLACS have designed a curriculum to educate students about the compost process and its beneficial uses. In the spring, students will prepare the garden and practice compost harvesting. Garden vegetables and herbs produced from the garden will be used as ingredients in student meals.
