Reading Rescue is a tutorial program for struggling readers in the early grades that is provided during the regular school day by classroom teachers, teacher assistants, and other school personnel. Students and tutors in a ratio of one to one meet for 30 minutes every school day. It is a literacy intervention that improves reading and writing instruction for all students in the classrooms of participating teachers. Student assessments are administered weekly, and the results from these evaluations are analyzed to determine progress. After a steady display of competence, the participating student is graduated from the program. Reading Rescue also provides ongoing professional development for administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals with follow-up support.
